Composition (per 200 ml syrup):
- Milk of Magnesia – 3.75 ml
- Liquid Paraffin – 1.25 ml
- Sodium Picosulfate – 3.33 mg
Mechanism of Action
Sodium Picosulfate:
A locally acting laxative with a dual action on the mucosa of the large intestine and rectum, resulting in:
- Stimulation of peristalsis
- Accumulation of water and electrolytes
- Increased bowel movement and defecation
Liquid Paraffin:
Softens feces and coats the intestine with an oily film. Helps:
- Reduce pain in conditions like hemorrhoids
- Soften hardened fecal material
Magnesium Hydroxide (Milk of Magnesia):
Increases osmotic pressure in the intestines, drawing in water to:
- Distend the colon
- Stimulate peristaltic action
- Promote smooth bowel evacuation
